Epic Tales of the Mahabharata

The Mahabharata, one of the longest epic poems in history, narrates the tale of the Kuru dynasty, centered around the intense rivalry between two families: the Pandavas and the Kauravas. Set against the backdrop of ancient India, this epic is not merely a story of war but a profound exploration of morality, duty (dharma), and the complexities of human relationships.
The narrative begins with King Shantanu of Hastinapura, who falls in love with Ganga, the river goddess. They marry, but Ganga leaves him after bearing their first son, Devavrata (later known as Bhishma), who vows celibacy to ensure the throne remains intact for his father’s future progeny. Later, Shantanu marries Satyavati, who bears two sons, Chitrangada and Vichitravirya. After their untimely deaths, Bhishma fulfills his vow by bringing Satyavati’s sons through the practice of niyoga, leading to the birth of Pandu and Dhritarashtra.
